Bittersweet

I just got back from a road trip to Washington state where we spent time north of Spokane at a friend's remote cabin and then onward to a music festival on Monday. I'd never seen so many different kinds of hummingbirds in one spot, sometimes seeing ten at the feeder at a time. One of my memories of spending time at my grandparents house in Omaha, NE in the summer was watching the hummingbirds at the feeder. Midway through our stay, I got a phone call that my Grandfather, who was 93, had passed away. He was the last of my four grandparents to go. He was an amazing, witty, loving man who I will miss dearly.

The Owls

I got a random phone call tonight from a friend who lives on ninth street island, telling me about a family of Great Horned Owls perched in a tree near their house. I've been waiting a long time to see some owls here. I guess it was my lucky night.
